Fixed Wire Testing
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 places a “duty of care” on employers and landlords to maintain electrical systems to prevent danger to staff, patients, pupils, visitors or tenants, and that the installation continues to be in a serviceable and safe condition. Every electrical installation deteriorates over time and with use so if your commercial property hasn’t had a periodic inspection recently, it may compromise your insurance policy. Depending on your business type, the advisable interval between testing varies as follows:
Yearly:
Cinemas & theatres, leisure complexes & places of public entertainment, caravan sites, launderettes, marinas, petrol filling stations
Every three years:
Industrial, agricultural & horticultural premises, caravans emergency lighting
Every five years:
Educational establishments, hospitals, churches, public houses commercial premises (every 5 years or change of occupier)
Every ten years (or change of occupier):
Domestic premises
